Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus - An upgrade over Redmi Note 10 Pro Max but with bigger compromises

Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus though seems like an worthy upgrade over its predecessor with better touch sampling rate (360hz), better charging brick inside the box (67 Watt) and with a better 5G processor inside i.e Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 but still lacks some basic features that a consumer is familiar with other under 20k price segment smartphones.

Design & Build quality :

Redmi note 11 pro plus follows the 2022 design trend with matte finished flat edges or you can say frame is flat like modern iphones but made out of plastic, looks really cool though and feels like xiaomi Mi11i 5G, front and back has gorilla glass 5 protection (atleast front is official) weighing about 202 gms with out the back cover although weight management is quite impressive doesn't feel much. Redmi note 11 pro plus color varient that I am using was the blue one which has this interesting wave like patterns or  some would call fencing like patterns although the blue color has glossy finish and will attract fingerprints, also available in two different colours black and white (they have fancy names but I would like to keep it simple) which co with frosted matte finish so if you like matte go with them.To some it up redmi note 11 pro plus feels very premium in hand and redmi has nailed the design this time around also.

Performance:

Redmi note 11 pro plus has Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 SoC inside with 6gb or 8gb LPDDR4X RAM and 128gb or 256gb of UFS2.2 on board storage, clocked at 2.2 GHz and Adreno 619 GPU, now let me just share the experience and less of specifications, you can play BGMI at 40 fps with visible stutters, frame drops and lags yes that's there and normal tasks like app opening closing multitasking you will feel the occasional stuttering and lagging issue and sometimes you won't feel anything at all, and 120 Hz refresh rate feels smooth most of the time atleast better than redmi note 10 Pro Max specially as MIUI13 is more optimised now but doesn't feels as smooth as Mi11i hypercharge or Mi11i dimensity 920 being the differenciator, supports 7 5G bands as well. Network reception upload download speeds are good supports 4G+ carrier aggregation (4CA sometimes as well) but doesn't support WiFi 6 networks or bluetooth 5.2.

Biggest basic compromises that you have to suffer specially because of the chipset are

                         1. No 4k video Playback on YouTube and no HDR videos as well even you can not play any external 4k video files.

                         2. Your smartphone camera can't record any 4k video files, not even 1080p 60fps as well and they are calling it as a pro plus varient.

Diplay & sound:

Display, sound and haptics are three areas where this smartphone shines and absolutely beats the competitors, it has a 6.67 inch full HD+ super amoled display with center punch hole, has 120hz display refresh rate and 360 Hz touch sampling rate and 1200 nits outdoor peak brightness definitely better outdoor visibility than any other smartphone brand in under 30k segment as well (better than nord 2), although the display supports HDR 10 but again Netflix and YouTube doesn't supports HDR playback.

If I had to describe my experience I would say great colours, sharp and vibrant display awesome viewing angles, no tint issue or black crush issue.

Redmi note 11 pro plus comes with dual sterio speakers and almost equal symmetric ones not as symmetric or good as Mi11i or the hypercharge but very close, supports Dolby and Hi-Res.

Haptics are precise and implemented almost through out the UI.

Battery and Charging:

5000 mAh battery is performing really good even during travelling I am someone who travels almost 300kms everyday by train and it delivers on the backup it's a one day battery even with heavy travelling. The smartphone comes bundled with a 67 Watt charger in the box (something to appreciate) but takes 60-70 mins to full charge something I didn't like (spoiled by oppo's charging tech).

Camera:

Under 25k is a segment where almost no one delivers with the camera performance (except realme 7 pro, xiaomi 11 lite ne 5g, redmi note 10 Pro, samsung m52 5g and the newly launched realme 9 pro plus - so there are few but most of them are old) so not going deeply into the camera specs rear primary 108 mp camera performs below average or average sometimes (not consistent) but one thing I can share is that it doesn't have the oversharpning (human subject) issue like Mi11i, after using Realme 9 pro plus and one plus nord 2 the camera performance of redmi note 11 pro plus does feels very mediocre or average, although the front camera performs above average.

Smartphone lacks behind in video recording department as you can not shoot 1080p 60 fps and 4k 30 fps videos as well. Night mode is very disappointing as well performs very poorly at dark conditions.

Special mention:

Redmi note 11 pro plus retains 3.5 mm headphone jack and IR blaster, something to appreciate the brand, and comes with side mounted fingerprint scanner which is fast but I would have liked an in-display one.

Software:

Redmi note 11 pro plus comes with MIUI13 based on android 11 out of the box which is disappointing in March 2022 android 12 should have been there like realme 9 pro plus. On the software front MIUI 13 is really improved and comes with less bloatwares than realme, I was amazed as I used MIUI 12.5 on Mi11i but dimensity 920 played a major role there, here I would say it's definitely better than its predecessor on software front and way better than MIUI12.

Conclusion: If you are getting the 6gb 128gb at 19k than you can think about it or just spend some extra bugs and buy the OG Redmi note 11 pro plus i.e Mi11i.
